What's included, and what isn't
No hidden costs and no surprises at the end. Here is exactly what your daily rate covers and what is billed separately, set out plainly.
What every safari includes
- Your professional hunter
- One PH per hunter, for the full duration of your safari. Not shared unless you have specifically asked to hunt with a friend or family member.
- Trackers and skinners
- The tracking team in the field every day, and the skinners handling field preparation of your trophies.
- Hunting vehicle and fuel
- Vehicle, driver and all fuel used during the safari.
- Accommodation
- Lodge or permanent tented camp, en-suite, for every night of your safari.
- All meals
- Three meals a day, plus coffee before you head out and something to take into the field on a long day.
- Standard drinks in camp
- Beer, wine, soft drinks and water. Premium spirits are the one exception and are charged separately.
- Laundry
- Done daily in every camp, which is why you can pack far less than you think.
- Field preparation of trophies
- Skinning, salting, cleaning and tagging, ready for the dip-and-pack facility.
- Hunting licences and permits
- Your hunting licence and the paperwork we lodge on your behalf.
What is not included
- Gratuities and tips
- Never included in any package price, and never expected. If you would like to tip the team, our FAQ has a full guide to sensible amounts.
- Trophy fees
- Charged per animal. A wounded animal counts as taken, so the full trophy fee applies whether or not it is recovered — itemised separately on your written proposal so you always know what each one costs.
- Dip, pack and shipping
- Treating, crating and freighting your trophies home. Paid to the facility and the shipping agent rather than to us.
- Taxidermy
- Whether you use an African studio or your own taxidermist at home.
- International flights
- Your flights to and from Africa.
- Charter flights
- Where a concession is reached by light aircraft — Mozambique in particular. Quoted separately.
- Firearm import permit fees
- The government fees themselves. We do the lodging and the paperwork at no charge.
- Rifle rental
- Available if you would rather not travel with your own. Charged separately — ask us for the rate.
- Airport transfers
- We help arrange transport to and from the airport, but the cost of it is on the client's account, not included in the daily rate.
- Travel insurance
- Required, and it must explicitly cover hunting and medical evacuation.
- Visas
- Where your passport requires one.
- Premium spirits
- Standard drinks are covered; specific bottles are not.
- Pre- and post-safari accommodation
- Hotel nights either side of the safari itself, if your flights need them.
- Optional extras
- Marlin fishing in Mozambique, sightseeing, and anything else added on to the trip.
On gratuities specifically
Tips are never included in a package price and they are never expected. We want to be completely clear about that, because the last thing anyone wants at the end of a good safari is uncertainty about what is owed.
That said, a great many clients do want to show appreciation for the team, and they ask us what a sensible amount looks like. Rather than leaving people to guess, we have published a proper guide. See the tipping guide in our FAQ.
How we quote
Every written proposal separates the daily rate from the trophy fees, and lists every trophy fee individually. You pay the daily rate for the safari, and you pay a trophy fee on every animal you take, and on any animal wounded but not recovered.
We do not publish standard prices on the website because trophy fees change annually, government licence fees change, and a fourteen-day elephant hunt and a seven-day plains game safari are not comparable numbers. Ask us and you will get a real one.
Want it in writing for your specific safari?
Every proposal we send itemises the daily rate and every trophy fee separately, so you can see exactly what you are committing to before you commit to it.
