Five to seven days of plains game in Limpopo, then the Zambezi Delta for the buffalo. This is the combination that gets the most out of a single trip to Africa — a broad species list at accessible trophy fees, plus the best buffalo hunting in Southern Africa. The Delta runs June to November, so there is room to fit the South African leg either side of it.
The shape of it
A week of Limpopo plains game, then the Delta for buffalo. Done in that order for a reason.
You arrive in Mozambique having already spent a week walking in African heat, shooting off sticks, and working with a tracking team. That matters, because the Delta asks considerably more of you physically than Limpopo does and it is not the place to be finding your feet.
Dates are fixed by the Delta
The Delta runs June to November and the South African season runs March to October, so the two overlap comfortably for half the year. In practice that means a winter trip can take either leg first.
Book a year out. The Delta weeks fill first.
Who it suits
A hunter who wants a serious buffalo and does not want to travel to Africa twice to get one, and who is fit enough for the Delta end of it.
If this would be your first buffalo, the honest alternative is Limpopo plains game plus the South African buffalo hunt — the same two-part shape, less travel, considerably less money, and a buffalo you can see.
Practical
Two countries, two sets of permits, and a charter from Beira into the Delta camp. The charter is quoted separately.
Malaria prophylaxis for the Mozambique leg, and gaiters for the floodplain.
What you would be hunting
Every animal below links to its own page, where the trophy judging, rifle and season are covered properly. The figures here are the same ones we would quote you in writing.
| Species | A good trophy | Rifle | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buffalo | 36"+ hard boss | .375 H&H and up | Demanding |
Also on this safari: Plus 5–7 plains game. The exact list is built around what you want and what is on quota when you travel.
What is included
Your professional hunter, trackers and skinners, hunting vehicle and fuel, accommodation, all meals, laundry, standard drinks in camp, and field preparation of your trophies. We help arrange airport transfers, though the transport cost is for your account.
Not included: gratuities, trophy fees (including on any animal wounded but not recovered), dip and pack, shipping, taxidermy, charter flights, international flights and rifle rental. Each of these appears as its own line on your written proposal, so nothing arrives as a surprise. Full detail is on the what's included page.
On price
We do not publish prices. Trophy fees and government licence fees change annually, and a fourteen-day elephant hunt and a seven-day plains game safari are not comparable numbers. What we will do is send you a written proposal with the daily rate and every trophy fee itemised separately. Gratuities are never included and never expected; the tipping guide sets out sensible amounts if you would like to.
This is a starting point rather than a fixed menu. Most of our safaris end up as something between two of these.
